🦜 Pete Cromer–Inspired Collage

In this art session, kids create a vibrant collage artwork inspired by Australian artist Pete Cromer. The lesson begins with watercolour painting, where children experiment with mixing colours and allowing the paint to bleed and flow naturally across the page.

Once the painted paper is dry, kids cut out different shapes and assemble them into a cockatoo using simple collage techniques. This two-step process encourages patience, planning and creativity — while still leaving plenty of room for individual expression.

This session supports:

  • colour mixing and watercolour exploration

  • fine motor skills through cutting and gluing

  • understanding shape and composition

  • confidence through playful, open-ended making

Because the focus is on process rather than precision, each cockatoo turns out completely unique — full of personality, colour and character.

A joyful, hands-on activity that’s perfect for kids who love colour, cutting, and creating artworks that really pop.
